The Birth of A Warm Welcome
I started A Warm Welcome because I believe babies should be welcomed warmly, gently and lovingly into the world and that parents should feel highly valued during the whole experience. I want to support women and their families in achieving this by promoting a nurturing environment.
Although midwives and doctors genuinely care and do a fantastic job, unfortunately due to time constraints, women can be rushed through their antenatal appointments so can feel their care is not as personalised as they would like and are left unsatisfied. Consequently at the birth, many women feel unprepared and out of control which can lead to unnecessary interventions. Women also often feel neglected once the baby is born, with little or no support or encouragement.
With A Warm Welcome, I strive to provide that extra support that may help you to feel less anxious, more prepared for the birth, supported through choices you make, and may help to promote more successful bonding and breastfeeding.
About Emily
Following my direct-entry midwifery training with Bournemouth University, I worked in Central London as a hospital and community Midwife, where I also completed a 'PROSPECT' course (teaching antenatal education).
I recently decided to focus my passion on the support aspects of being 'with woman' and have taken further training as a Postnatal Doula with Nurturing Birth.
I am qualified as an Infant Massage instructor with the International Association of Infant Massage (founded by Vimala McClure who originally developed the techniques now widely used in many baby massage classes) and immensely enjoy seeing first hand the benefits of nurturing touch for babies.
I am also qualified as an Indian Head Massage therapist as I believe Mum should also experience the benefits of massage!
I have many years of experience of caring for children, from babysitting my younger siblings and family friends, to playschemes for children with special needs, to working as an 'Au Pair' several times in a variety of European countries with children between 0-7 years of age.
I have contributed towards and been involved with the PR for a new DVD entitled 'Belly Dance for Bumps' by Stephanie Gawne-Hamza, a professional belly dancer and fitness instructor.
I am a member of the International Association of Infant Massage, the Guild of Holistic Therapists, and the Association of Radical Midwives.
I hold an up-to-date CRB disclosure form, am fully trained in Maternal and Neonatal resuscitation and have training in food hygiene and manual handling.
In my spare time I enjoy travelling, discovering new cultures and languages, dancing especially belly dancing, playing piano, reading, walking, guinea-pigs and cross-stitching.
